Special Medical Services is a physical therapist owned rehabilitation and diagnostic service business located in the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City, Iowa. Special Medical Services has been serving the residents of Charles City and the surrounding Floyd County area with consistently superior care since its origination in 1969. We treat each patient with a caring personalized approach and see each problem in its own unique way. You will find our professionals to be caring and highly knowledgeable and our facilities to be modern and inviting.

In addition to a hands-on approach, we encourage each patient to take an active role in their own care and treatment plan. We work with each patient to educate them about their own unique problem and provide them the necessary tools to allow them to assist in their treatment plan. It has been shown that when patients are actively involved they are better equiped to prevent future recurrences.

Physical Therapy

As a staple in our community, Special Medical Services takes great pride in providing effective physical therapy services. We create a tailored plan for each patient designed to improve motion, reduce pain and swelling, increase strength and endurance, restore function, and prevent re-injury.

Respiratory Therapy

Special Medical Services' Respiratory Therapists (RT) are specialists in airway management, nebulization treatments, and acid-base balance.

EMG/Nerve Conduction

The typical electromyographic examination consists of two testing procedures: nerve conduction examination (NCS), a needle examination (EMG). Most EMG examinations take an average of 1-2 hours.

Vascular Ultrasound

Vascular Ultrasound is an imaging exam that uses ultrasound to evaluate real time blood flow through a blood vessel, including the body's major arteries and veins in the abdomen, arms, legs and neck.
